How Water Affects Your Body, Health & Fitness

About sixty percent of an adult body is composed of water. We all know this fact but still, we ignore water when we talk about nutrition. Without water, all your efforts to build your health and fitness will go down the drain literally. We list some reasons why water is considered so important for fitness.

1. Water Supports Your Exercise Routine

Exercise is necessary to remain fit. But if your body is dehydrated then you will feel lethargic. This will reduce the time and intensity of your exercise routine. You lose water in the form of sweat when you exercise. It is recommended to drink water before and after exercise. Water should be consumed at regular intervals when you are exercising. It will help you to exercise for a longer duration.

Water also lubricates your joints and prevents pain during exercise. Consumption of water is important to maintain body temperature and blood pressure while exercising. Dehydration can heat the body and cause problems like nausea and dizziness.

2. Muscle Building

Muscle building is an important part of remaining fit. Muscles contain 70 to 80 percent of water. Sufficient water is extremely important for muscle building. Dehydration can cause muscle cramps while exercising. Inadequate water consumption can cause muscle fatigue due to the imbalance of fluids and electrolytes in muscle cells.

3. Transportation of Nutrients

Proper nutrition is extremely important for good health. Water carries nutrients to all parts of your body and the muscles and joints. Water also helps in repairing damaged cells and tissues by providing them with nutrients.

4. Helps the Kidneys to Function Efficiently

Your kidneys do the job of processing all the nutrients, food, and supplements that you consume. Kidneys must function efficiently for waste elimination from the body. Dehydration will adversely affect the functioning of your kidneys and make you vulnerable to problems like kidney stones.

5. Digestion and Elimination of Waste

Your intestines need water to break down the nutrients in the food. Water is also important for proper bowel movement. When the body does not get adequate water your colon draws water from stools. This results in constipation. Constipation affects your gut health and also gives rise to problems like piles. Constipation will also cause indigestion.

6. Fat Loss

Water reduces your cravings. Many times thirst is mistaken as hunger. Replacing calorie-rich drinks with plain water will help you to reduce excess weight. Foods rich in water keep you satiated for longer. The energy used by the body to produce more urine burns calories.

7. Skin Health

Healthy skin is important for a healthy body. Dehydration can give a dry and wrinkled look to your skin. Skin also eliminates toxins through sweat. Water makes your skin look healthy.
